Homeschooling in Queensland — register today, start learning tomorrow

Key facts — Queensland
Regulator: Queensland Home Education (QHE)
Age range: 5.5 to 18 years
Cost: Free
Home visit required: No
Provisional registration: Immediate on application
Renewal: Annual — report + new plan
Curriculum required: No — high-quality education standard
Queensland's home education system is the most accessible of the three eastern states. The moment QHE receives your application, you have provisional registration. You can withdraw your child from school the same day. There is no waiting, no home visit, and no inspector. What QLD does require is an annual education plan — a document that shows how your child will receive a high-quality education across at least five learning areas. The plan doesn't need to follow the Australian Curriculum, and you can write it in your own format. At month 10 of your registration, an annual report is due — including annotated work samples from at least three learning areas. Keep a simple learning diary and date your child's work throughout the year and the report writes itself. Queensland also offers more benefits than other states: a Textbook and Resource Allowance for Years 7–12 families, Fair Play sports vouchers, and Centrelink activity exemptions.
